Hiring in CEE — what to actually expect in 2026.

Nine markets. Twenty different tax regimes and labour codes if you count them properly. One partner who works in all of them. This page is what we tell every client on their first call — condensed.

The realistic case

Why companies actually hire in CEE.

Five reasons that come up on every discovery call — and the caveat nobody tells you upfront.

1 · Cost

40–60% less than Western Europe

A senior engineer in Sofia costs roughly what a mid-level engineer costs in Berlin. But cost alone is a bad reason to hire in CEE — pick a market for talent depth first, cost second.

2 · Talent depth

Real engineering, real sales, real ops

Sofia, Bucharest, Warsaw, Prague each have 30+ years of tech industry history and multi-generational engineering talent. Not "offshore delivery" — real senior operators.

3 · EU-legal

BG · RO · PL · CZ · HU · Baltics = EU

Full EU legal framework. No IP-transfer nightmares, no export-control friction, GDPR-compliant by default. Serbia and Ukraine are more nuanced — we advise case by case.

4 · Timezone

UTC+2 / +3 · works with US East + all of EMEA + Asia

Sofia's timezone gives you overlap with New York morning, London full day, Singapore afternoon. The single best geographic fit for globally-distributed teams.

5 · Language

English is a given · plus DE, FR, IT, RU, and 8 others

Multilingual coverage across CEE is the real differentiator for BPO and customer-facing roles. 12+ European languages staffed to production quality across the region.

+ The caveat nobody mentions

Retention risk in the first 6 months is real

CEE has a poaching culture in hot markets — 20–30% early attrition is common for badly-scoped searches. This is why we build cultural alignment into every process upfront.

Frequently asked

What clients ask us on the first call.

?
How long does it take to hire in CEE?
+

Mid-level: 6–10 weeks from kickoff to start date is typical. 3–5 weeks to shortlist + 4–8 weeks for interviews, offer, and 30-day statutory notice period.

Senior / specialist: 10–14 weeks. Longer to find, longer notice periods, more negotiation cycles.

?
What is the statutory notice period?
+

Bulgaria: 30 days (extendable to 3 months contractually). Romania: 20 working days + strict procedure. Poland: 2 weeks to 3 months (tenure-based). Czechia: 2 months. Hungary: 30 days + up to 60 days for tenure.

?
Do I need a local entity?
+

No. Most of our clients start with Recruitedia Employ (EOR) and open a local entity only when they hire 5+ people in a country long-term. Employees transfer cleanly from EOR to your entity when the time comes.

?
Can I hire in CEE if my company is based outside the EU?
+

Yes. We currently serve clients HQ'd across the EU, UK, US, Canada, Israel, UAE, Singapore, and Australia. The cross-border employment relationship usually works wherever the role is remote and your jurisdiction allows a service agreement with an EOR in the EU.

?
What is the total cost — salary plus everything else?
+

Bulgaria: gross × ~1.19 (employer social security capped at ~EUR 2,110/mo basis) + EUR 350–450/mo EOR fee. Romania: gross × 1.02 (very low employer contribution, high employee contribution). Poland: gross × ~1.20. Czechia: gross × ~1.34. Hungary: gross × ~1.13.

Full breakdown per role and country in our Insights report — EUR 990, credited fully to your first Search or Employ engagement.

?
What sectors do you work with?
+

We work with technology, fintech, SaaS, AI, BPO, shared services, industrial, and manufacturing companies. If your role is remote-viable, professional (not shift-based frontline), and sits in one of the functional areas we run — Tech, Finance/SSC, Multilingual BPO, AI Data — we can help. Ask us about your specific case; we would rather turn a search down than run one we cannot deliver.
